In conversation with Piyush Nangru, Co-founder & COO, Sunstone Eduversity

How is Sunstone Eduversity’s MBA curriculum different from that of others?

Since the onset of the pandemic, corporates had to bring-in many changes, whether welcome or not. This has led to the new corporate revolution where industries demand rapid upskilling, especially from new graduates. B-schools are still struggling to keep up with the dynamic industry requirements. Sunstone Eduversity, however, stood out in the post-covid era as a front-leader. By adapting quickly, keeping the course content relevant to the changes in the market, and leading with technology, Sunstone viewed this uncertainty as an opportunity.
Sunstone Eduversity emphasizes on its technology-enabled education delivery which is facilitated by its industry-aligned faculty. It has a very hands-on curriculum with practical interactive learning designed for efficiency. Based on the student’s progress, Sunstone Eduversity’s learning management system suggests personalized remedial methods, generated to strengthen and improve the student’s learning experience. Through tech-enabled teaching, it provides the students with a platform to learn, engage, and tread a tailored learning path. Assignments, quizzes, projects, and notes can be found all in one place on its LMS and it is easily accessible – anytime, anywhere.

Sunstone Eduversity’s Industry-aligned trainings, boot camps, and industry visits form a core part of the syllabus as it understands the need for a practical management curriculum that is at par with the changes in the industry.

How is Sunstone bringing about Financial Empowerment for its students?

In the present scenario, any aspirant that wants to pursue an MBA degree will have to first sort out the financial expenses that this degree typically incurs. Most of these MBA aspirants end up in the rat race by taking hefty loans and sometimes they might not even land a job.

But students at Sunstone don’t have to worry about these financial worries as it offers PayAfterPlacement model where the students need to pay a minimal registration amount and they can pay the rest of the fee after getting a job, thereby becoming financially strong and not financially debted.
Along with this, Sunstone provides the Sunstone Scholarship Test for meritorious students where they can avail scholarships up to INR 1 Lakh and that gets reimbursed towards the registration fee which reduces any barrier to entry. For this season, Sunstone has increased the number of scholarships to 300.
If any student has the financial support in place, then they can also opt for a Money-Back-Guarantee program wherein they can pay the complete charges at the beginning of the MBA program. Sunstone takes accountability for job placement in all of its models and if the student is unable to find a favourable job by the end of the course, they can reclaim this fee.

Overall, the emphasis is on getting every Sunstone student a job, irrespective of their financial standing. About 75% of Sunstone’s wards opt for the #PayAfterPlacement program which is also its driving force for providing accountable education, making them industry-ready, and finally getting them a job.

How is Sunstone supplying corporations and new-age businesses with industry-ready talent?

Sunstone’s curriculum has been designed by industry professionals who understand the pain-points & challenges every corporation faces. It is regularly-updated with every new change in the industry. For example, Sunstone Eduversity was the first to teach students about TikTok in its digital marketing specialization, which was later replaced by Instagram reels. So its students are adept & agile in learning the new trends that are popping up every day.

Unlike a 6-month internship, Sunstone focuses on internalizing soft skills & applied training with every student with a tailored 9-month internship. This is of utmost importance in bridging the gap between management students & industry, especially with fresh graduates.
In addition, Sunstone Eduversity has 10 tailored specializations that focus on the “do-er” role. Each specialization has its domain-specific events like boot camps, industry-speakers that give them a deeper insight into industry requirements & the future of job trends.

The Eduversity’s top achievers have bagged packages as high as 10 LPA & some of its alumni are currently working with various Fortune-500 companies.

What all aspects does Sunstone work upon to make its students readily employable?

The management program at Sunstone is made with extreme precision, with industry-driven requirements, and evolving demands of the industry so that students are able to bring the best to the table and be prepared to face every challenge given to them in the future.
Apart from regular specializations in Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations etc, Sunstone has also included applied-specialisations in Banking Operations, Insurance Management, Retail Management, HR & Recruitment, Sales Management, Logistics & Supply Chain, Digital Marketing, Market Research, Data Analytics. The curriculum is updated every 6 months making it extremely relevant to the industry’s needs. Frequent revamps also allow education providers to be more agile & dynamic and change as the industry changes.  Guest Lectures Series is another initiative that deserves mention, as it adds to the vision of seamless alignment. These lectures ensure not only the alignment of the academic team & management with the industry but directly let students interact with corporate leaders and entrepreneurs. Sunstone Eduversity offers 1200 hours of extra specializations, assessments, etc. for all the industries that recruit with Sunstone. Special training modules help students stay a step ahead of every other individual out there in the company they join.  During the pandemic, Sunstone launched a “WFH workshop for millennial managers” to ensure Sunstone graduates can effectively manage their teams in remote environments and corporates don’t face challenges in training their new hires.

It seems that students aspiring to study abroad have put their plans on hold these days due to COVID-19 pandemic. We, at Careeline strongly believe that in fact this is the perfect time to study abroad. We present a detailed analysis for each country herewith.

USA

It has been observed that the social media has totally and systematically paralysed the psyche of a USA aspirant. This is the best time to pursue studies in the US as the US universities and the US government is aggressively promoting their country to attract international students, especially Indians. Changes due to COVID situation are as follows:

  • High scholarships by top ranked universities
  • Decreased or liberal Admission Requirements
  • Students undertaking blended courses (online & offline) shall definitely be eligible to pursue their further studies in the US when the pandemic slows down and the institutions open up for international students.
  • Accelerated student visa procedure by US embassy with student’s getting visas within a week of their applying for the same.
  • US embassy is granting student visas liberally and the current visa success ratio is almost 100%.
  • H1B visa category is not closed but there are only temporary restrictions until 31st December 2020 on it due to COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Family immigration system is going to be replaced in future with merit based immigration system providing PR opportunities.

Australia

Australia is one of the best countries to study in terms of foreign education. Almost all the Australian universities enjoy very high ranking, with 8 of its universities under the top 50 and top 100 universities of the world. These universities offer quality education alongwith prominent scholarships to eligible students. The good point here is that their admission requirement is also quite simple, wherein they just require a decent academics and IELTS score. There is no additional requirement of giving any competitive exams. Australia, one of the first countries to put restrictions on its borders in face of COVID-19, has handled the situation pretty well and they have been quite successful in controlling the spread as compared to other countries. Majority of the Australian states are in favour of opening up the border now as the number of cases so far has been 26,136 and out of them 22,165 are recovered cases. Australian universities are providing admission offer letters within 2 days of the application and have been offering heavy scholarships to attract students in this pandemic situation. Also, Australian embassy has resumed the student visa procedure and lot of students have been granted the visas recently.

Canada

Canadian universities provide quality education in affordable tuition fees. It provides an extremely safe learning environment.  Canadian government is also quite supportive of international students. Canada is one country that has taken drastic measures to sustain the international student inflow in their country. Canadian government has helped the international students studying in Canada since past one year and who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with CAD 2000 every month since the lockdown. Also, Canadian embassy has been granting AIP (Approval in Principle) to prospective students willing to pursue their higher studies in this pandemic. On the basis of this AIP, students can start their online studies in Canada and then gradually study in Canada when the borders re-open. This online study will not affect their post study work visa right in any way, as the students will be eligible for the same in future.

New Zealand

New Zealand is the world’s second most peaceful country. All the universities of New Zealand are in the top 3% in the world, which provides quality learning experience with practical exposure. NZ qualification are recognised and respected globally. In current covid-19 situation, NZ is the only country in the world, which has the least COVID cases, with a total of 1,767 cases and 24 deaths, while 1,631 people have recovered. This proves that the NZ government gives its citizens’ health the topmost priority. NZ government has provided a fund of NZ$ 51 million to the NZ institutes to conduct research and provide financial aid to its current students. Currently, the NZ border is closed for international students but the universities are accepting international students’ applications so this is welcoming news for aspiring students.

UK

UK is one of the leading nations in terms of international education and hub of top notch universities such as University of Oxford and Cambridge University. The standards of teaching and research are quite high in UK. 4 out of top 10 universities in the world are in UK and it has a solid education system. The universities are periodically inspected to ensure high standards of education are maintained.

COVID-19 updates:

  • UK has opened its borders for international students and they havealready started flying for September intake.
  • UKVI have confirmed that students who had to undertake some of their study online, by distance or blended learning, are still eligible to apply for the Graduate route.
  • UKVI have confirmed that Sponsors will be able to issue CAS to students who need to commence their studies by distance/blended learning
  • This is permissible where students intend to transition to ‘traditional’ face-to-face learning ‘as soon as circumstances allow’
  • This concession has been put in place for the duration of the 2020/2021 academic year, and will be regularly monitored by UKVI.
  • Many of UK Universities had issued Scholarships to international students from 10 to 30% to cut down financial burden

Education is no exception to the pervasive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has also temporarily jolted the study abroad plans of students due to restrictions in international air travel and suspension of the classroom model of teaching. As India enters Unlock 3.0, the restarting of the Indian economy is an encouraging development that will revive overseas education albeit with some introspection and restructuring. An educations.com survey highlighted that only 5.4% of prospective students planned to cancel their future study plans amid COVID-19.
elearningE-Learning to become mainstream– Many Ivy League universities host some of their best courses on online portals like Coursera for students who do not prefer conventional degrees. The coming years might see many top universities shifting courses to an entirely online mode. However, to say that online education will replace the classroom model would be an exaggeration. Going forward, we foresee the hybrid education- a mix of classroom and online model to become the norm rather than the exception.

Focus on STEM courses: The demand for STEM courses is expected to be marginally impacted in the short-term. The COVID-19 crisis has underscored the significance of science, technology and innovation to tackle exigencies and navigate through uncertainty. It has given a fillip to the healthcare sector and highlighted its pervasive impact not only on the health of the global population but also its ramifications on economic development.
Content and not the technology to take centre stage: Digital communication has reinforced the significance of compelling content in keeping the target audience engaged. Today’s youth have a variety of digital media to choose from to access content; obviously, those media offering superior content will take over the rest. However, technology will be a catalyst in facilitating this transition.
online learning
Examination system and pedagogy might change: COVID-19 will prompt a rethink of the existing examination structure with more universities mulling to shift to a digital mode of examination. Also, the emotional distress during the lockdown his likely to fuel the demand for courses focussing on holistic education such as mental health, personalized guidance and experiential learning.

Short-term courses to witness higher influx than two-year programmes and above: The COVID-19 has given a fillip to short-term courses due to their skilling and reskilling potential to hedge the career against economic uncertainties. Also, as more consumers look at education from a ‘value for money proposition’ amidst curtailed spending, short-term courses are better placed than conventional degrees as a cost-effective solution.

COVID-19 can be regarded as an inflection phase for the overseas education sector prompting stakeholders to rethink, reassess and re-innovate.

The report titledIndian Student’s Mobility report 2020: Impact of COVID-19 on Higher Education Choices” says that over 48 percent Indian Students who wanted to study abroad are reconsidering their decisions.

The main reason has been attributed as fear of corona virus. Also, the lack of arrangements for travel and accommodation in foreign countries like US and UK –which are also one of the major destinations with lot of Indian Strudents — acts as barrier.

“The significantly lower return of investment in an already expensive international higher education domain coupled with further reduced chances of employability have a key role to play,” said the report.

This drastic changes in student mobility has main influence over non-STEM students. On the other hand, the report says that there is likely to be demand for STEM based professionals.

“It is no longer a mystery that global travel is a key factor in the spread of communicable disease. This is bringing a lot of change in Education world.”

In the modern world, changes are happening incredibly fast. And, probably, one of the most relevant skills today is the ability to quickly analyze information, make decisions on time and deftly adjust to the current moment. We remember that some 15-20 years ago we still had time to maneuver in the matter of choosing a profession. But now it is a luxury. And it’s not so easy to decide what business you want to do for the rest of your life in such conditions, especially if you just recently turned 10 or 15 years old.

An interesting solution to this truly complex issue was found in Moscow. For several years now, a new education reform has been gradually implemented: today we will tell you about the most impressive innovations.

The basis of the Moscow education system is that every child should have the opportunity to learn, from the age of 3. At this age, most parents think introducing their children towards sports, creativity, language courses, chess, robotics and even elementary programming. As a result, by the age of 5-6, children are already beginning to gradually determine what is more or less interesting for them.

At the same age, at the age of 5-6 years old, children are enrolled in pre-school preparatory groups for school in specialized multidisciplinary centers. Classes are held, as a rule, in the same school buildings where children have to study further, which significantly reduces stress. Today, Moscow boasts 600 multidisciplinary centers, 530 of which have similar pre-school groups successfully operating.

It can be said that from this point on, the education of children develops simultaneously in several directions. First, it is a direct school education, which provides students with a confident basic knowledge. Secondly, the additional extracurricular activities designed to help the child determine his interests and find precisely those areas in which he can maximize his potential. And finally, the third educational direction is education available to a child and his family outside of any institutions. We are talking now about a unique educational ecosystem that includes classes in city museums, lecture halls, exhibition centers, as well as excursions.

As a result, by 8th and 9th grades, most children are already ready to decide on a profession, and are given the opportunity to enter preprofessional classes. These classes are another innovation of the Moscow Department of Education. Preprofessional classes are parallels of a specialized focus, among which are engineering, medical, natural science and scientific-technical, as well as cadet. All specialized classes are equipped with everything necessary for the successful development of the profession – full-fledged laboratories, computers, demonstration materials. This project was created to ensure that even before entering the specialized classes of high school, children could try themselves in a particular profession and assess their capabilities.

After preprofessional classes, students are ready to enroll in specialized 10 and 11 grades, or immediately go to colleges and begin to receive their first professional education in 64 different areas. At the same time, before entering universities, students of schools and colleges can pass the so-called pre-professional exam, and thus gain additional points, which are added to the points for the Unified State Exam and are taken into account when entering universities. In addition to the pre-professional exam, pupils of the senior classes or specialized colleges regularly participate in the Young Professionals Championships. In the last 2018, Moscow students received two gold and silver and one bronze medal at the EuroSkills championship in Budapest. And in the previous 2017 championship in Abu Dhabi, students of Moscow colleges earned two gold and silver awards.

Such a multidirectional education system was conceived based on the principle “Every child is talented.” And first of all, its goal is to help children to attain timely vocational guidance.

International Moscow Forum “City of Education” is one of the most significant events in the world of metropolitan education. The main objective of the forum is the exchange of experience in the development of various stages of the educational process. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate the latest educational technologies, resources and equipment. Next forum “City of Education”, which will be held in Moscow from August 29 to September 1, 2019.

Are you among the one who wishes to experience the thrill of studying abroad? However, are you worried about costs involved? Higher Education Plus brings you a list of few countries that you could prefer for overseas study. These countries provide a rich learning curve besides giving you economic comfort.

Norway

Norway has the highest standards of living (implies highly expensive) in world and yet on the contrary remains down to earth and low-priced for the overseas students. The country is highly recommended in terms of high quality education as it exempts the tuition fee for all the courses at Undergraduate level.

Some of the famous courses pursued by the students are:

  • Environmental Studies and Earth Sciences,
  • Business and Management
  • Social Science
  • Art, Design and Architecture

Imp points to remember

  • There’s a semester fee of about 500 NOK per semester. Once enrolled, a student in Norway gets access to benefits like Public Transport, Museums, Concerts and Cultural Events.
  • Finding Accommodation should be first priority when applying to university at Norway as it is expensive and high on demand.

Taiwan

Taiwan, officially called the Republic of China (ROC) is well-known for its high university entrance rate. It is one of the top performing countries in terms of literacy, maths and science. The country imposes the same high-class education for the student overseas.

The low tuition fees at Taiwan’s college and university is the key highlight!

Plus, the friendly people, vibrant culture and safety feature of the country boosts the foreign student’s presence at Taiwan.

Some of the famous courses pursued by the students are:

  • Economic Studies
  • Languages
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Social Sciences

Important Points to Remember

  • The use of Chinese language is extensive.
  • Taiwan is located at the junction of two tectonic plates and therefore one of the most tectonically active regions in the world. However, structures are built to withstand powerful typhoon winds and earthquake tremors.

Germany

Germany is considered as an education paradise. With world class universities and best-in-class research technology, students look towards the country with high hopes.

According to a survey conducted in 2018, 35.3% of prospective foreign students admitted low or no tuition fee universities as the top reason why they chose higher ed. in Germany.

Some of the famous courses pursued by the students are:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Business Management and Finance
  • Hospitality
  • Bachelor International Business

Important Points to Remember

  • Universities in Germany ensure all students get a unified and internationally recognized degree such as bachelor’s, master’s or PhD.

United States – they say is the land of opportunities. Indian Students from time immoral have preferred to study at US Universities owing to the bright outlook. This includes the world class research facilities, usage of latest technology while teaching, provision of choice based credit system and the great diversity it offers.

Reasons may be more. As such, despite many students getting successful to obtain a seat, a few have doubts regarding admission, scholarships, fee payment, visa norms, employability, security and many more.

To mitigate their woes, US Embassy has partnered with YAxis Foundation to provide free advisory services to help students. This shall facilitate the avoidance of any fraudulent situation.

“Embassy in June will launch a new app which will be guide students for overseas education as an official source of information,” quoted Karl Adam, Deputy Cultural Affairs Officer, the US Embassy to the media.

Updated Data for 2018: Number of Indian students going to Top 5 Study destinations:

Though the US has always been the first option for Indian students for higher education, the trend is slowly changing due to multiple constraints such as strict visa requirements, depreciation of the Indian rupee, and growing intolerance towards the foreigners staying in the US. Hence students are now considering the other options such as Australia and Canada.
According to the statistics provided by the deputy high commissioner of Australia in India, by February 2018, approximately 60,062 Indian students moved to Australia in their quest for higher education.
Along with the main cities like Melbourne and Sydney, students are also considering new regions such as Adelaide, Gold Coast, Perth, and Northern Territory.
According to the Canadian High Commissioner in India, approximately 83,540 study permits were issued to Indian nationals in 2017.

The major reasons for Indian students increasingly choosing Australia and Canada as study abroad destinations are:
Availability of a huge range of courses
Both these countries have some of the most reputed educational institutes in the world. These universities offer a huge range of courses which are equipped with world-class infrastructure and research facilities. Along with traditional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) courses to management programs, students have a number of options to choose from depending upon their expertise and personal interest. Australia has been getting students from non-STEM backgrounds as it accepts 15 years of education which most US universities don’t offer. Many scholarships are available for students, some of which are government funded; some are university-specific, which can be utilized by students. The most interesting aspect of this country for international students is the quality of scientific research. Canadian colleges are comparatively less expensive.

The option of post-study work permit
So the Indian students can also apply for a post-study work permit in Australia and Canada, which is not available in most of the countries. Students who have studied for two years in Australia can apply for a post-study work visa. In Canada, students are eligible for a work permit for three years if they have finished their master’s degree from a Canadian university. With the introduction of SDS (Study Direct Stream) program the number of Indian students applying for a student visa for Canada has tremendously increased. Australian law allows students to work up to 20 hours per week during the course.

Facility of Permanent Residency
Majority of Indian students who enjoy their stay in Australia and Canada decide to apply for permanent residency. The path to permanent residency in these countries is comparatively flexible and easier. In Australia, foreign students require just a few qualifications to apply for the permanent residency program. Most of the engineering students are considering Australia as a great abroad study destination since the route to PR is easier for them. In Canada, the newly reformed Express Entry program is a major determining factor for Indian students to study there. After becoming permanent residents in the country for six years, one can apply for Canadian citizenship. There is a huge attraction among students for two-year diploma courses in Canada which is followed by a work permit.

Safe environment
Australia and Canada are comparatively safe countries when it comes to foreign students. Most of the cities here are cosmopolitan. The residents here are very warm and welcoming to foreigners. The governments of these countries are also open to all nationals and strongly foster cultural diversity.

Affordability
Affordability is also a major reason for Indian students to opt for studying in Australia and Canada. Compared to the US, the tuition fees and cost of living are relatively cheaper.
