]]>
Indian companies are increasingly exploring opportunities to set up battery cell
manufacturing operations to meet the demand for components of electric vehicles (EVs).
The Indian government is encouraging domestic lithium-ion cell manufacturing that is
conducted by NITI Aayog, India would have to manufacture Lithium-ion batteries
domestically to meet its EV targets without relying on imports. The government initiated the
National Mission on Transformative Mobility in 2019 to encourage phased manufacturing
programs for batteries and EV components. The initiative aims to aid in the setting up of an
intricate framework of state-of-the-art battery manufacturing units all across India. To support
cell manufacturing, the needs a sufficient supply of raw materials mainly, lithium, cobalt,
nickel, etc through mining grounds within the country or its peripheral countries. Over the
next decade, NITI Aayog proposes to set up mega factories that aggregate up to capacities
near 50GWh, with an estimated cost of USD 5 billion. This is expected to reduce India’s
dependency on foreign imports thus encouraging the supply of indigenously manufactured
batteries.

It said India can learn a lot from china which has aggressively expanded in the EV battery
space over the last 10 years, conquering each part of the supply chain to emerge as the
dominant player in e-mobility. China now leads in next-generation EVs through large
investments in R&D, favorable government policies, foreign direct investment inflows, and
aggressive acquisition of raw material resources across geographies. Taking lessons from
India’s neighbor in the north, improved access to raw materials can be provided in multiple
ways, including reduction of import duties on raw materials, improving bilateral ties with
countries rich in natural resources of the raw materials, and encouraging Indian companies
to acquire those resources.

“Comprehensive policies from the government that encompass the complete battery value
chain from acquisition of natural resources to recycling of batteries will go a long way in
providing a necessary push to the industry”, said the report titled E-mobility: Cell
manufacturing in India’. Steps such as tax subsidies and the development of special
economic lithium parks across countries to promote investments in raw material refining and
cell manufacturing capacities and continued PLI schemes and subsidies for cell
manufacturing will be key. EV cells are the most critical part of the e-mobility value chain, the
Indian EV industry suffers from overdependence on imports, limited local manufacturing,
finite access to raw materials, and refining capacities. “To accelerate India,s electric mobility
growth, the government and the industry ecosystem must collaborate, to nurture a
self–reliant, local EV value chain, with the established battery, manufacturers, OEMs, and
startups investing in continuous R&D partnerships and global alliances to create a strong
supply chain.

The increasing demand for electric vehicles and the rising shift towards clean energy
resources will drive the lithium-ion battery market’s growth in the coming year. An analysis
conducted by JMK Research and the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis
(IEEFA) estimated that the Indian lithium battery market would grow from 2.3 GWh in
FY2021 to 104 GWh in FY2030, with electric vehicles (EVs) accounting for 90 percent of the
total industry. The Indian government has set a 30 percent electric car sales target by 2030.
The Central Electricity Authority predicts that India will need 34 GW/136 GWh of battery

storage to add 450 GW of renewable resources. This will speed up the country’s move to
becoming a significant user of lithium batteries.

According to Mr. Vikrant, COO of EVI Technologies. The technology of lithium batteries
is constantly evolving. Until recently, the two dominant chemistries seen in the Indian market
were LFP (Lithium Ferro Phosphate) and NMC ( Nickel Manganese Cobalt). In Indian
contexts, LFP chemistry is considered safer, but NMC chemistry has a higher energy
density.

Solid-state batteries are intrinsically safer because they are non-flammable and much
research is being done in this field. In this decade, there will be further advances in lithium
battery technology, which can lead to higher adoption.

“Societal development is the main aim of space technology and ISRO is continuously striving towards achieving that goal” observed Dr. A S Kiran Kumar, Former Chairman, ISRO at the 77 th WiseViews Leadership Conversations webinar series conducted by ICFAI on 21 st October 2022. He spoke on the topic “Space, Technology & Society – Lessons from ISRO.”
Dr. Kiran Kumar stated that India started its space operations ten years after achieving the independence under the visionary leadership of Sri Vikram Sarabhai. From 1991 onwards the funding for the ISRO was gradually increased. Dr. Kiran Kumar said that all the funds were judiciously utilized to design and develop various space research programs for societal development.
“Owing to the innovative and robust space technology, India is today witnessing the rapid transformation in terms of the advancement of the living style of the people”, said Dr. Kiran Kumar. He gave the example of smart Set Top Box (STB) that has replaced the long TV antennas used in the early 1990s. Similarly, lots of other programs were designed by virtue of which we have not only strengthened our defense sector but also developed economically.
Dr. Kiran Kumar also stated that India now has progressed remarkably in the space research
and many startups are coming forward to work in this area. “Look for the future..Look for Space”, he quipped. Answering to a query in the Q & A session, Dr. Kiran Kumar stated that “it is unfair to compare the activities of NASA with ISRO because the former has started its operations much earlier and it also has the luxury of sufficient funding from the super power of the world”. The conversation was moderated by Prof. R Prasad, Director – Academic Wing, ICFAI Group and Prof. Sudhakar Rao, Director – Branding, ICFAI Group .About 250 participants including researchers, faculty, working professionals, and students attended the webinar which was also live-streamed on Facebook.

Survey conducted with upto 300 teachers across 9 cities led to Practically launching this platform with curated experts to help address relevant and pressing issues towards emotional and mental wellness

Practically, India’s first experiential learning app designed to make learning immersive for students of classes 6-12, has launched ‘The Learning Lobby,’ an initiative answering basic yet important questions that could be playing on the minds of educators and parents. Practically has put together a curated team of experts offering insights on navigating these situations. This is one of the most comprehensive initiatives in the industry that starts off with webinars on a fortnightly basis.

The objective of this initiative is to ensure teachers and parents are able to cultivate a healthy environment for themselves and their students by overcoming challenges such as striking a work-life balance (for teachers), stress management, and dealing with adolescence to begin with.

The initiative came to light after an internal study was conducted by Practically to understand the challenges faced by educators. The findings showcased that 78% of teachers believe that students are facing the brunt of stress and boredom. 55% of educators are finding it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance as they have faced constant fatigue. Over 70% of teachers believe that they need guidance to adapt better to the current scenario and expert intervention will help them overcome their current challenges. The Learning Lobby is a thoughtful response to the feedback received from educators from across the country.

Commenting on the initiative, Ms. CharuNoheria, Co-Founder & COO ofPracticallysaid, “Practically has endeavoured to make learning a joyful experience. Our latest initiative is aligned with this vision. • D Rahul Shashank developed the Cyber AlertApp to counter the increasing risk of cyber-attacks in India
• Vaddeswaram (Vijayawada) / Hyderabad, 22 November 2021KL Deemed-to-be University, one of the leading universities in the country for graduation and higher education, has today announced that its student has created a Cyber Security app that offers features like e-complaint filing, cyber internships, Cyber Consultation, etc. The Cyber Alert app is also the very first cyber security app to be available in English, and Telugu. This unique app is simple, convenient and absolutely crucial to ensure one’s digital security today. India, and world at large, has witnessed a surge in the cases of cyber-attacks and internet-borne threats since the onset of the pandemic. As 2021 created a largely digital workforce and learners, the scope for these attacks also increased manifold.

According to the recent Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) report, India recorded 8.30 crore cyber threats in the second quarter of 2021, a staggering 80% increase from 1.67 crore threats detected in the same quarter last year. As cyber frauds and threats to cybersecurity increase, there is a need for a comprehensive source of information on the crime and the measures to take to safeguard from such crimes. D. Rahul Shashank, a final year student at College of Law, KL Deemed-to-be University, pursuing his bachelor’s degree in BBA, LLB, has recognized this need early during the pandemic. He has developed Cyber Alert to assist users in every step of their journey in safeguarding their digital identity.

The app alerts the users before they fall victim to them. A perfect amalgamation of information, guidance and solution, the Cyber Alert app boasts several features that provide the user, a crystal-clear understanding of cybercrime and ways to tackle it. Some of these features include:

1. Cyber Complaint Filing– A user can file a cyber complaint through the E-Filing link which is provided with the disclaimers in the application.
2. Cyber Complaint Tracker / Status – One can check the status of a case which has filed through the application.
3. Cyber Materials – Study material on cyber security & cyber laws, I.T Act 2000& I.T Act 2008, cyber forms and latest cyber security news, etc. will be available on the app for the users.
4. Cyber Police Stations – A list of the cyber police stations will be available on the app to help users find the nearest cyber police stations by Enabling the GPS / location.
5. Cyber Internships– Best opportunity for internships & workshops in cyber security can be explored on the app.
6. Cyber Legal Aid– The Cyber Legal Aid is divided into the two sub-modules namely Cyber Expert consultancy and Cyber Volunteers.

The team of entrepreneurs also include Founder & CEO, D. Rahul Shashank, (student of BBA LLB, 2017-22), Co-Founder, Dr. K.I Pavan Kumar, (HoD, Department of Law, KL College of Law), Chief Technical Officer, Vinay Are, (KL Alumni, 2012-16) Chairman & M.D – R. Sai Ashish Yashwanth, (student of BBA 2019-22), General Manager, D. Tirumala Tarun (student of B. Tech EEE, 2018-22). The young entrepreneurs also enjoy the strong support of prominent industry experts and thought leaders as the app’s advisory board, carefully curated by KL University’s mentors. The advisory board consists of Mr. Pavan Duggal, a renowned Indian Lawyer, among others. The app is now available for download on the google play store.

Often, unauthorized access to your private information goes undetected by the common users. The increased number of cyber-attacks during the pandemic propelled us to launch the app. The University was quite confident in this venture and supported our journey throughout. We are grateful for the mentorship and guidance provided by the faculty”, said D. Rahul Shashank, Founder & CEO, Cyber Alert.

Congratulating the students’ bold venture, Dr. G. At KL Deemed-to-be University, we nurture the creative rollercoaster minds of our young talent to sculpt them as global leaders of tomorrow. This Cyber Alert app will surely be an inspiration to many other students who are hesitant to pursue their ideas”.
