On Thursday, Nitin Gadkari, the union minister, was felicitated with an honourary degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) at the Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth in Akola, Maharashtra. This honour was conferred upon him by the Governor and Chancellor of public universities, Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Gadkari is the longest serving minister for Road Transport and Highways in Government of India.

This event took place at the 36 th convocation ceremony of the university. This auspicious occasion was took place in the presence of Dr. Motilal Madan and Dr. Vilas Bhale, the former and current Vice Chancellors of the university, respectively.

The grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2018 was inaugurated at Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management (RCOEM) and Yashwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE) by Union Minister for transport Nitin Gadkari and mayor Nanda Jichkar on March 30,2018.

At RCOEM, Gadkari asked the students to go an extra mile and think out the box to use engineering knowledge and come up with such innovations which would be fruitful to the society. He encouraged them to use their technical expertise and try out unique ideas to make the money roll and contribute in national economic growth.

The two-day Hackathon is seeing a participation of nearly 10,000 students representing 1,296 teams spread over 28 nodal centres of India who would be working over the problem statements for 36 hours at a stretch.

All India Council for Technical Education has organized this event along with Ministry of Human Resource Development.

In 2017 nearly 600 problems were solved and this year the number is 408. The students were absorbed as they examined their issues from various angles to bring out the best solutions.
